Former Governor-General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove AK AC (Mil) CVO MC (RETD) will be the guest speaker at the 2019 Lord’s Taverners ACT PM’s XI and Annual Dinner.
Sir Peter will reflect on his time as our head of state in his presentation at the event, which will take place on Wednesday, 23 October (the night before the PM’s XI-Sri Lanka T20 match) at The Commonwealth Club in Yarralumla.

For those who aren’t aware, Sir Peter was born in Sydney in 1947. He attended Waverley College in Sydney and graduated in 1968 from the Royal Military College, Duntroon.
Early in his military career, he fought in Vietnam, commanding a rifle platoon. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1971 for his performance and leadership during an assault on enemy positions.
In 1972, he served as Aide de Camp to Governor-General Sir Paul Hasluck. He then returned to continue what was a decorated military career.
He was appointed Chief of Army in 2000 and served as Chief of the Defence Force from 2002-2005.
Since retiring from the Australian Defence Force in 2005, Sir Peter has served on the boards of Qantas, Cardno and the Australian Rugby Union. He chaired the Council of the Australian War Memorial and was Chancellor of the Australian Catholic University.
He was Australian of the Year in 2001.
In 2014, he became a Knight in the Order of Australia when sworn in as Australia’s 26th Governor-General. He served with great distinction in this role until the end of June 2019.
Sir Peter is an avid sports follower, especially cricket and rugby union.
