Former champions, leading administrators, Lord’s Taverners members and other cricket lovers gathered at the SCG last night for the induction of Mr Adam Gilchrist AM as the inaugural national Ambassador of the Lord’s Taverners Australia.
Mr Gilchrist was formally inducted by the President of the Lord’s Taverners Australia, Mr Paul Sheahan AM.
“I am honoured to be the inaugural Ambassador for the Lord’s Taverners Australia,” Mr Gilchrist told the audience at the event.
“I’ve been inspired by the work Mum and David have done for the Lord’s Taverners.
“I hope I’m able to utilise the good faith of the public profile that cricket gave me for the Lord’s Taverners.”
Mr Gilchrist’s parents, Mr Stan Gilchrist OAM and Mrs June Gilchrist, have been a driving force behind the Lord’s Taverners’ Northern NSW Branch and more recently, Stan Gilchrist was appointed as the first Executive Officer of the Lord’s Taverners Australia.
After being inducted, Adam Gilchrist was interviewed by former ABC journalist, Mr Kerry O’Brien where, among other things, he was asked about his views on where the game of international cricket will be in 10 years from now.
“I think there’s room for all three formats,” Mr Gilchrist said.
On a significant night for the Lord’s Taverners Australia, the Chief Executive Officer of Cricket Australia, Mr James Sutherland, confirmed the Lord’s Taverners Australia will become a Community Partner of Cricket Australia.
The Lord’s Taverners supports young and disadvantaged cricketers and other athletes.
