Another successful Bunnings barbecue has been run by the Lord’s Taverners ACT, despite it taking place on the same day as one of the largest rain-storms to hit Canberra in recent years.
Led by our enthusiastic committee-member, Keith Hardy, our team of volunteers braved the heavy downpour at Bunnings, Gungahlin (on Sunday 25 February) to keep hardy weekend shoppers well fed with sausages, bread and – when requested – onion (with either tomato sauce or barbecue sauce on top).
It was particularly pleasing that so many members of the Lord’s Taverners members gave up their time to cook or serve, not just members of our committee.
Despite the weather, which meant less sales than usual, we were still able to raise more than $600 through our efforts on the day.
Funds raised go towards the work the Lord’s Taverners ACT does supporting young and disadvantaged local cricketers and other athletes.
We have another Bunnings barbecue coming up soon – this time at Bunnings Belconnen on Saturday, 2 June.
